About Sean
Canadian wunderkind/enfant terrible of the balloon world,
Sean Rooney has dedicated a large portion of his so-called adult life to making art with balloons.
Part trailblazing conceptualist, part extreme technician, he has found ways to make magic, music, fashion, sculpture, puppets, sound effects, comical visual narratives, complex scientific explanations, etc... using balloons as his sole visible prop.
Apparently, inspiration is the other key element!
His performances are fun, funny, and tuned to each particular audience; great for children of all ages!
Career highlights include:
Two Just for Laughs Gala performances, Montreal
Sculptural installations the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Art Gallery of Ontario, in Toronto
The worlds' first balloon fashion show, Utrecht, Netherlands
Performing as a guest of the Canadian embassy in Singapore
Gigs in Hong Kong, Dubai, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, the United States, Serbia, Macedonia, Spain, Israel, England, Russia
Celine Dions' family Christmas party in Montreal.
Sean graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in cultural anthropology,
and his work reflects a deepening understanding and appreciation for culture(s).
He speaks French, English, is working on his German, and dabbles linguistically wherever his travels take him.
In foreign countries, and often in Toronto, too, he learns some important phrases from the show in the native language of his audience; for instance, he can say "The caterpillar becomes a butterfly" in eleven languages.
