Into Northern Ireland

Submitted by sean on Thu, 09/01/2011 - 17:42.

Arrived at Belfast International airport a few days ago, now making the rounds with relatives visiting various Rooney-related sites.
What a twisty, windy up and down part of the world. Great company, decent weather (especially by Irish standards!)... Not much planned in the way of balloons, but considering doing a street show or two, just to say I did!

Edinburgh Fringe continues...

Well, balloon Nessie is still on hold, awaiting favourable weather, I mean it can't rain for a whole month, can it?
Big adventure last night was doing a cabaret spot at The Electric Circus.... The organizers said, they were considering cancelling because the crowd was drunk and unruly....
I took a chance and did my bit, and it turns out, I am pretty good at entertaining drunken, unruly types!
Tamed the crowd a little, and brought out many inner happy drunks.
Cheers!

Fringe Benefits

Submitted by sean on Fri, 08/12/2011 - 16:09.

After a week of mostly rain, we have had a day of drizzle. A definite improvement. I have been working on my electric "air guitar" bit- making a balloon guitar, turning up the distortion, and rocking out. Great reaction from the crowds, but more than a few folks though i was just playing a recording and miming the music. Kind of a back-handed compliment, I guess.
Tuesday, I will begin constructing a life-sized balloon Loch Ness monster. Hehe. Have seen a few show, met a bunch of crazy performers, and had a few drops of nice whiskey. Now if only the sun would show up!

Edinburgh Fringe

Submitted by sean on Wed, 08/10/2011 - 10:48.

So here I am in a gorgeous city where summer comes in little bursts lasting less than ten or eleven seconds.
It springs, then falls on little gusts of wind, comes and goes with teasing glimpses of the sun.
And don't get me started about the rain.
Let's just say the majority of balloon twisting vendors work under big umbrellas,
and advertise their products as waterproof, with the potentially beneficial side-effect of providing buoyancy
should the seemingly inevitable deluge arrive (OK I made the last part up, but I have seen a rubber duck floating away).
